Elligibility
The program is available for
young people ages 14 to 22. Participants must reside in the London,
Ontario area and currently enrolled in a high school or post-secondary
education institution.
The Program
Founded in 2000, Future Smart is one of The Congress of Black Women of
Canada, London Chapter's program designed to prepare young Black adults
for the practicalities and art of living in today's society. The
program is a continuum of learning beyond the educational curriculum.
The strategies presented will help to offer a more balanced and focused
life.
This nine week program provides an opportunity for our young Black adults to gain experience in variety of topics including:
Communication Skills
Marriage and Relationships
Spirituality
Entrepreneurship
Self Discovery
Black History
Post Secondary Transition
Health and Well-being
Grooming and Self Esteem
Sexuality
Nutrition & Etiquette
Money Management
We are very excited about the program and feel that it will be a valuable experience for our youth, both now and in the future.
The nine week program culminates in a
cotillion ball where the participants have the opportunity to showcase
the acquired skills and talents. During the evening, each graduate is
expected to present a three-minute speech demonstrating the learned
public speaking skills.
Our presentations volunteer their time,
talent, energy and expertise and are the heart of the program. If you
can help in any way (as a presenter, sponsor, donations, cash or in
kind), please contact Liz Akano (President of the Congress of Black
Women of Canada, London Chapter) at (519) 649-4666. We thank you in
advance for your generosity.
